The WBG established its Vienna office in 2004 with a small investment climate program, which expanded into a full office in 2007. Today, the Vienna office is home to over 350 professionals from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), contributing to various development programs.

About the World Bank Vienna Internship Program (VIEIP)

The World Bank Vienna Internship Program (VIEIP) offers graduate students from Austrian universities an opportunity to:

  • Engage in hands-on development work at one of the most reputable global development institutions
  • Collaborate with professionals in fields such as economics, finance, energy, health, transport, digital development, and more.

The program targets highly motivated and exceptional students to contribute to the impactful work supported by the World Bank Vienna office.

Vacant Positions

Interns will be hosted by various units within the Vienna office. Specific positions available include:

  1. VIEIP#1 – Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment (MTI)  
  2. VIEIP#2 – Financial Sector Advisory Centre (FinSAC)  
  3. VIEIP#3 – Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR)  
  4. VIEIP#4 – Danube Water Program (DWP)  
  5. VIEIP#5 – Energy and Extractives  
  6. VIEIP#6 – Social Sustainability and Inclusion  
  7. VIEIP#7 – Digital Development  
  8. VIEIP#8 – Health  
  9. VIEIP#9 – Transport

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the program, candidates must:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a full-time graduate program (master’s or PhD) at an Austrian university.
  • Plan to return to their studies after the internship.
  • Be fluent in English (no nationality or age restrictions apply).
