The “Recalibrating Afrikanistik” (RecAf) initiative invites young researchers and lecturers in African Studies to apply for fully funded fellowships hosted by prestigious universities and institutions. This program offers an opportunity to advance research projects and engage with innovative approaches in the field of African Studies.

Fellowships are hosted at the following institutions:

  • University of Bayreuth (Germany)
  • University of Naples ‘L’Orientale’ (Italy)
  • University of Leipzig (Germany)
  • Moi University (Kenya)
  • Stellenbosch University (South Africa)
  • Federal University of Wukari (Nigeria)

Remote fellowships are also available for virtual participants.

Fellowship Overview

  • Duration: 3–6 months (mid-2025 to mid-2026)

  • Doctoral students
  • Post-doctoral researchers (all career stages)
  • Advanced MA students

Application Process

Required Documents:

  • Cover Letter: Explain how your research aligns with RecAf’s goals.
  • Research Outline: Detailed project description (max. 800 words or 2 pages).
