Explore Global Studies: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Peace and Security Application Deadline: February 28, 2025 Are you passionate about addressing global challenges and exploring the dynamics of peace and security, particularly in Africa? The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University, in collaboration with the University of Leipzig, offers unique MA and PhD programs in Global Studies. These programs critically examine globalization, transnational interactions, and contemporary global challenges, with a special emphasis on Africa’s peace and security landscape. Programme Highlights • Multidisciplinary Approach: The programs challenge traditional narratives about globalization by examining transnational aspects of interactions and rejecting methodological nationalism. • Focus on Peace and Security in Africa: Students explore Africa’s specific security challenges within the broader context of global entanglements, integrating theoretical and practical insights. • International Collaboration: Delivered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Leipzig, Germany, the programs combine rigorous academic foundations with a comparative analysis of global actors, new regionalisms, and evolving world orders. • Practical Relevance: Graduates gain critical analytical skills to address global issues and contribute to the intellectual debate on globalisation. Programme Achievements First Cohorts: • Launched in 2012, with the first cohort graduating in 2015 and the second in 2016. • Over 105 students from 24 countries have enrolled to date, including participants in the ‘Welcome to Africa’ exchange program. Current Cohort: • The fifth cohort comprises 17 MA students from 10 different countries, fostering an international and collaborative academic environment. Global Recognition: • The programs have enhanced IPSS and Addis Ababa University’s profile regionally and globally, attracting students worldwide.
