Call for Applications: 2025 UNIDIR Women in AI Fellowship; Empowering Women in International Security, AI, and Disarmament

Application Deadline: Monday, 3 February 2025
The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) invites applications for the 2025 Women in AI Fellowship. This transformative program is tailored to equip women diplomats with essential knowledge, skills, and networks to engage effectively in multilateral discussions on AI, international security, and disarmament.
Why the Fellowship?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping governance and international security. However, women remain underrepresented in key forums addressing these challenges. To promote gender inclusivity and impactful policymaking, the Women in AI Fellowship provides training in the technical, policy, legal, and gendered aspects of AI governance in the context of global peace and security.
Program Structure
The week-long training in Geneva is centered around three core pillars:
1. Education:
- Comprehensive introduction to AI technology, its strengths, limitations, and use in security applications.
- Overview of multilateral discussions on AI policy, governance, and gender-specific implications.
- Learning led by UNIDIR researchers and field experts.
2. Exploration:
- Interactions with stakeholders involved in AI design, deployment, and governance.
- Briefings on technical and academic AI applications.
3. Networking:
- Direct engagement with diplomats, private sector leaders, and civil society.
- Participation in UNIDIR’s Expert Network on the Governance of AI in the Military Domain.
- Exclusive receptions and virtual meetings with multi-sectoral experts.
