About the ZUKOnnect Fellowships

The Zukunftskolleg ZUKOnnect Fellowships at the University of Konstanz support early-career researchers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Fellows gain access to Germany’s research ecosystem and collaborate with experts across various disciplines at the University of Konstanz.

The program is tailored for:

• Postdoctoral researchers (up to 2 years post-PhD).
• Doctoral students in their final year.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be born and have worked in Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
• Hold a doctoral degree (granted after 15 February 2023) or be a final-year doctoral student.
• Have completed their doctorate at a university in the eligible regions.
• Not hold a permanent professorship or equivalent qualification.
• Conduct research aligned with the disciplines at the University of Konstanz.

Application Tracks:

• Track A: Collaboration with a researcher at the University of Konstanz (no prior contact needed).
• Track B: Nominated by a (junior) professor at the University of Konstanz.

Application Requirements

Submit the following documents:

• Motivation Letter: Objectives for your research stay and its connection to the University of Konstanz (max. 2 pages).
• Research Summary: Ongoing project details with references (max. 3 pages).
• Work Plan: Timeline for your research during the fellowship (max. 2 pages).
• Curriculum Vitae.
• Relevant certificates: Doctoral certificate or confirmation of doctoral status.
• Track A: Academic letter of reference.
• Track B: Nomination letter from a Konstanz professor (sent directly to Zukunftskolleg).

Fellowship Benefits

• Monthly stipend:
• €1,300 for doctoral students.
• €2,000 for postdoctoral researchers.
• Standard travel expenses (economy class).
• Research allowance up to €750 (upon request).
• Digital affiliation: Extends fellowship duration to 12 months, supported with up to €900.
• Return research visit by a Konstanz researcher to your home institution (upon request).
